Artists’ message to visitors
Antonio Vivaldi was one of the most brilliant, volcanic and surprising violinists and composers of his time. I found in the Biblioteca Nazionale di Torino, the library which houses almost all the manuscript works by Vivaldi, multiple examples of his Opera Seria in which the singers had to be the most clever, brilliant and virtuoso singers in the world. Some of these arias are presented in this programme, together with virtuoso concertos for strings and wind instruments, such as the concerto for oboe and trumpet.

About the project
The program that Orchestra Barocca San Marco proposes is based on secular music by Antonio Vivaldi. Vivaldi wrote about 50 operas. Most of them were staged in Venice, in several private or public theatres. Very famous was also the so-called “Pute”, young girls that lived in the four “Ospedali” in Venice, where the girls played all kinds of instruments, trumpet, bassoon, oboe, recorder, all the strings instruments, harpsichord and of course sing. Orchestra Barocca San Marco with Lucia Cortese, soprano and his soloists, will play a typical baroque concert of Venice in the XVIII century.

Brežice, Brežice Castle

Brežice Castle is a splendid example of fortified Renaissance castle architecture on a plain with four mighty round defence towers and spacious courtyard. Interior of fortified castle has lavished baroque paintings.
