The network of 26 Hungarian cultural centres operating in 24 countries worldwide plays a distinctive role in the international promotion of outstanding achievements in Hungarian culture, education and science, as well as in the conscious, value-driven shaping of Hungary’s international image. The institute network is committed to strengthening the international visibility of Hungarian cultural values, promoting the good reputation of the Hungarian community, and building and reinforcing cultural connections both within and beyond Hungary’s national borders. The Liszt Institute in Slovenia opened its doors in 2016. Our institute pursues several objectives, including the preservation of national and cultural heritage and its presentation to the widest possible audience. It is also dedicated to maintaining and developing cultural, educational and scientific diplomacy, promoting the visibility and knowledge of the Hungarian language, and presenting the diversity of Hungarian culture and society in Slovenia. In addition to regular literary and film evenings and programmes for children, visitors can enjoy numerous exhibitions, as well as concerts hosted in our premises. We also ensure that Hungarian musicians are regular guests at music festivals throughout Slovenia. The Ljubljana Liszt Institute places particular emphasis on the publication of literary works and on supporting translation activities. Since 2016, more than 20 Slovenian translations of Hungarian literary works have been published with the institute’s mediation. The institute is also an active member of the EUNIC network of foreign cultural institutes in Slovenia. Our cooperation with Slovenian partners also serves to establish professional relationships and to connect artists and cultural practitioners. We consider it important that Hungarian and Slovenian artists and cultural professionals remain aware of one another’s work, including in the context of broader international collaborations. The Liszt Institute plays a highly significant role in shaping and achieving the objectives of Hungarian cultural diplomacy. One of the key goals of Hungary’s cultural policy is modernisation and improved competitiveness, encompassing both culture itself and cultural infrastructure. With a strong emphasis on the diversity of Hungarian culture, the Liszt Institute in Ljubljana—as one of Hungary’s cultural institutes operating abroad—implements and supports programmes that foreground Hungarian modern and classical art. The cultural institute seeks to stimulate public interest in Hungarian culture, which is both constantly evolving and deeply rooted in tradition, while strengthening Hungarian–Slovenian cooperation. At the same time, in close collaboration with the Embassy of Hungary in Ljubljana, the Liszt Institute strives to play an important role in the social life of Hungarians living in Slovenia. I would also be delighted to welcome you personally at the Liszt Institute. Do drop by for a coffee, discover the culture of neighbouring Hungary and the work of outstanding Hungarian artists, and find out why Hungary—rich in diversity—is certainly worth visiting.
