Musica Antiqua Neoplantensis (RS)

Musica Antiqua Neoplantensis was founded in 2019 with the aim of bringing historically informed performance into a living dialogue with today’s audiences. Rooted in the rich cultural context of Southeast Europe, the ensemble explores Baroque and early music repertoire not as a museum practice, but as a vibrant and communicative art form. Its artistic concept is based on combining canonical works with lesser-known pieces, creating dramaturgically shaped programmes that emphasise storytelling, emotional depth, and sonic authenticity. Through flexible ensemble formats and collaborations with guest artists, the ensemble develops projects that connect past and present, highlighting shared human themes and fostering a deeper, contemporary understanding of early music.

FOCUS

  • Historically informed performance (HIPP) with a focus on Baroque and early music, using period instruments and stylistically informed vocal techniques
  • Repertoire spanning 17th- and 18th-century Europe (Italian, German, French, and Iberian traditions), combining canonical composers with lesser-known works
  • Dramaturgically shaped programmes that emphasise storytelling, rhetorical expression, and emotional depth
  • Flexible ensemble formats (from intimate duo/trio settings to larger vocal-instrumental configurations) with invited guest artists
  • An artistic approach that connects early music with contemporary perspectives, highlighting a dialogue between heritage, space, and modern audiences

REVIEWS

  • Although so-called ‘historical concerts’ can sometimes appear rather hermetic and insufficiently appealing to a wider audience, this was certainly not the case with the recital at the Museum of Vojvodina. The performers were the outstanding Slovenian soprano Radoslava Vorgić Žuržovan, the virtuoso recorder and traverso player Meila Tome Pihler, and the Spanish guest Rafael Arjona Ruiz, an accomplished lutenist and Baroque guitarist. Their programme, entitled From Iberia to the Balkans, featured an engaging and demanding selection of works by Spanish Renaissance and Baroque composers, alongside music by early masters from other parts of Europe and beyond.
