Continuum (DE)
CONTINUUM’s musical language moves in a sphere between old and new, between the 17th and 21st centuries, between knowledge and innovation, between vocal and instrumental music. A new and promising ensemble, CONTINUUM seeks out new concepts – without losing sight of the original material.

Artists’ message to visitors
Our most preferred period as harpsichordist and singer is the baroque era. Though we are artists, who are living in the 21th century, but playing music of the 17 and 18th century, we have to find a connection between this beloved repertoire - the past - and the present: our audience. Presenting a collection of songs for voice and Basso Continuo in Brezice castle, we combine many of the above mentioned aspects, while using different room settings, include improvised transitions, etc. to create a unique and touching concert evening.
About the project
Harpsichordist Elina Albach and her ensemble CONTINUUM with Soprano Marie Luise Werneburg are interested in presenting the repertoire of the baroque, with all of its rich and diverse texts in a contemporary context. She is interested not only in the specific, immediate concert form, but rather in creating a contemporary repertoire using the potential of versatility found in period instruments

CONTINUUM’s programme in Brezice Castle is showing different colours of vocal repertoire with basso continuo – beginning with very early baroque repertoire by Claudio Monteverdi and Girolamo Frescobaldi, travelling via Purcells London and his English songs, to the mid 18th century of Johann Sebastian Bach and listening to some of his most unknown music: songs he has composed and collected for his second wife Anna Magdalena Bach. An intimate and beautiful evening, which allows quite new and promising impressions of the most popular composers from the baroque period.

Brežice, Brežice Castle

Brežice Castle is a splendid example of fortified Renaissance castle architecture on a plain with four mighty round defence towers and spacious courtyard. Interior of fortified castle has lavished baroque paintings.
