Richard Boothby (GB)

Richard Boothby igra violo ga gamba, odkar mu je David Fallows leta 1977 izročil tenorsko violo. Poskušal mu je pomagati pri diplomski nalogi z naslovom "Wagnerjev prstan in njegova tonaliteta" na Univerzi v Manchestru. Po nadaljnjem študiju pri Nikolausu Harnoncourtu v Salzburgu je ustanovil The Purcell Quartet leta 1984 in Fretwork leta 1985. Prizadeval si je obogatiti repertoar za consort viol da gamba z novo glasbo najboljših skladateljev današnjega časa, od Elvisa Costella do Georgea Benjamina, od Alexandra Goehr Nicu Muhlyju. S Purcell Quartetom je posnel skoraj 50 albumov za Hyperion in Chandos in s Fretworkom več kot 50 albumov za Virgin Classics, Harmonia Mundi USA in nazadnje Signum Classics. Priredil in transkribiral je velik del velike glasbe za instrumente s tipkami Johanna Sebastiana Bacha za viole, ki je bila posneta pod naslovom »Alio Modo«, njegovo priredbo Goldbergovih variacij pa je potem posnel tudi s Fretworkom. Leta 1998 je dirigiral izvedbe Monteverdijeve »L’Incoronazione di Poppea« s Purcell Quartetom in jih leta 2001 dirigiral v popolnoma uprizorjeni produkciji »L'Orfeo« z Markom Padmorejem v naslovni vlogi. Leta 2016 je s Christophejem Coinom izvedel program čudovitega francoskega in angleškega repertoarja za dve basovski violi. Istega leta je izšel njegov posnetek celotne violske glasbe Williama Lawesa za violo bastarda za Harmonia Mundi, ZDA. Naslednje leto je za založbo Signum Records posnel nedavno odkrite Telemannove fantazije, v začetku tega leta pa je izšel njegov posnetek nekaterih večjih del Alfonsa Ferrabosca za violo bastarda iz leta 1609 z naslovom »Music to Hear«. Je profesor viole da gamba na Royal College v Londonu.
