The opening was a success
Last night’s opening concert of this year’s edition of the Seviqc Brežice Festival was a success. The Festival was officially opened by the accomplished conductor Paul Agnew and the exquisite Academie baroque européenne d'Ambronay, performing Dido and Aeneas: Desmarest & Purcell. The ensemble of young artists impressed us with their brilliant singing and the exceptionally precise bravura of instrumentalists led by concert master Kinge Ujszaszi. The performance was met with enthusiasm and a thunderous ovation from the audience. We were greatly honoured with the presence of the French Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France, Her Excellency Marion Parada, director of the Directorate for Creativity with the Slovene Ministry of Culture Igor Teršar, member of the Slovene parliament Igor Zorčič, and mayor of Brežice Ivan Molan. The concert was broadcast live by Radio Ars.
This was the second staging of the famous opera Dido and Aeneas by composer Henry Purcell at our festival; we witnessed the first one in 2000 (the first ever staging of this opera in Slovenia), when it was conducted by the British gambist Richard Bootby and performed by excellent singers Nancy Argenta, Julie Gooding and Peter Harvey. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all visitors for attending and creating the vibrant atmosphere, and our sincere gratitude goes out to all our sponsors.
In July, Seviqc Brežice 2017 continues with two exquisite concerts by Concerto di Margherita, performed at two locations. On Friday, 21 July, they will play in Slovenska Bistrica (Slovenska Bistrica castle), and on Saturday, 22 July, in Brežice (Brežice castle).
