Hortus Musicus in Dewil`s tower
In Soteska (Slov. Gorge), a small village between two forested plateaux, Hudičev turn (Slov. Devil's tower) has stood for over three hundred years, stirring up the imagination. In this mysterious manor we will enjoy another musical experience performed by Hortus Musicus, the six-member ensemble specialised in Renaissance and contemporary music. We will listen to the madrigals of Carlo Gesualdo, Principe da Venosa, a unique composer from the early 17th century who built bridges between the musical past and present. The extravagant use of words, extremes of emotion and sudden melody changes will unveil masterpieces that were likely inspired by the composer’s double murder – of his wife and her lover, for which he was never punished.
The event will take place on Thursday, 24 August 2017, opening at 19:30 with the festival upbeat, artists presenting their work and sharing their favourite musical passages with us. A tour of the festival venue will follow, and the concert will start at 20:30.
