Heartfelt Congratulations
Congratulations to the Mohorjeva Society on Its 175th Anniversary
Today, 27 July 2026, marks the 175th anniversary of the founding of the Mohorjeva Society, the oldest independent institution of the Slovenes in Carinthia. It was established by Anton Martin Slomšek, Anton Janežič and Andrej Einspieler together with like-minded associates.
Following the end of the First World War, the Klagenfurt-based Mohorjeva Society was forced to relocate to Prevalje for eight years. In 1927, it moved to Celje, where it has now been based for 99 years. In 1947, the Klagenfurt Mohorjeva Society was re-established, and all confiscated properties were returned to it. In 1924, the Goriška Mohorjeva družba was also established in Gorica (Görz, Gorizia).
