Early Music Day
21 March is Early Music Day. This year the Seviqc programme celebrates it in Celje with the Simpozij Celeia and a concert by the ensemble Harmonia Adriatica, taking place at the Narodni dom, the Mestna kavarna and online. A rather extensive booklet, which also recalls the first celebration on 21 March 2013, is available on our Publications page.
While working on the editorial preparation, I noticed an interesting detail. Already in 2013 the welcome messages mentioned that we were living in a time of crisis. Now, thirteen years later, that crisis has become even deeper. Things are happening that at the time we would not have expected even in our worst nightmares, yet today they may seem almost self-evident. For this reason it is all the more important to strengthen Europe as a leading cultural entity. This, alongside the celebration of Early Music Day, was the main motivation for organising the Simpozij Celeia.
If I may summarise the words of the great Jordi Savall: today it is important that we join forces and support early music. The Municipality of Celje has already done so by enabling both the festival and this symposium. When we speak about the musical notation of early music, we must remember that all this music truly exists only when a singer or an instrumentalist brings it to life through their artistry.
And one more very important thought: the great Savall quotes the great Fyodor Dostoevsky: beauty will save the world. This is what most people believe — both the simple and the demanding — people who wish to breathe this air, drink this water and live without fear, both in economic and in security terms. This stands beyond all ideological positions. And definitely — early music is beautiful. Very beautiful.
The concert is already very well attended, but tickets are still available.
The Seviqc festival begins on 7 August and runs until 21 August. Priority tickets provide broader access to cultural events and can still be purchased before the programme is announced, after which the pre-sale price will increase.
